Mike Glover

Canterbury artist | Painting

Mike lives and works in Springston South, near Christchurch. An exhibiting artist since the early 90s, he works mostly in pastels which gives his work its distinctive soft yet vibrant look. He is drawn to interpret the landscape, especially the iconic braided rivers of the South Island. In more recent years, the deterioration of his local waterways, and other environmental concerns, have had a profound impact on his life and work.

In his own words: “Looking down on a silvery river winding through a valley, or a vista of tumbled mountains, is food for the soul. There is a sense of awe, of peace and of harmony with nature and it is these feelings that I most often try to convey in my artwork. It is also important for me to express my concern for our environment and the legacy we hand on to our children.”
