Melanie Drewery
Nelson artist | Ceramic
Melanie Drewery (Ngāti Māhanga) works from her studio gallery on a small farm in Ruby Bay, Nelson, as a potter, writer, and jeweler. She has been a potter for over 30 years and has evolved a delicate earthy style, pushing clay to its finest limits and drawing on nature for inspiration.
In this range, Melanie uses clay and sand gathered from a number of South Island sites to create pieces which reflect New Zealand’s bush and coastline. Although the pieces are clear glazed, the colours are not glazes, coming instead from minerals mixed deep within the clay body and reacting to the textural effects in different ways.
