Lauren Kitts has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of California (1985). Since then, she has been living and working in New Zealand full time as a sculptor. She has attended over 30 sculpture symposia nationally and internationally, and has won multiple awards for her sculptures in New Zealand. She undertakes commissions as well as continuing to add to a large body of work.

As a stone sculptor, certain influences such as truth to materials inform her work. Instead of using imagery imposed upon a material, she works with the type and shape of a piece of stone in a conversational manner to portray an idea or concept. Quite often the initial shape and texture of the stone will inform this dialogue.
