Greetings to our newsletter subscribers! It’s great to be back open for the summer season, and awesome to see so many visitors to the gallery. We have some wonderful new art in the gallery and special prices on selected artworks for September only. For more information, check out the details in the newsletter below.
Just a reminder that our summer hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10-4pm. And for more information about new artwork, exhibitions and special deals, do follow our pages on Facebook or Instagram.
September Specials
We have selected artworks on special for September only. Check out our shop page and/or visit the gallery to see what fabulous work we have on offer. Artworks on special include original paintings by Jo Midgley and Clare Wilcox, ceramics by Fiona Bryant and Angela Tier, framed prints by Sue Roughton and photography by Erin Roughton. This is a great opportunity to buy some great art at very reasonable prices Protean Art Shop.
Opening 19th October 2023
The superb Nelson Arts Festival opens Thursday 19 October. Entertaining, diverse and powerful arts events pack this year’s programme. The festival kicks off with the Night Vision Tour.
‘Our springtime evening event invites you to wander our city streets and be enticed into the diverse offerings of Whakatū’s galleries – go on in, explore, discover and see why Whakatū is celebrated as the (small) capital of arts & crafts in Aotearoa.’
Nelson galleries, including Protean Art in Tahunanui, will open from 5-8:00pm on the opening Thursday. We plan to have some of our talented artists in residence on the night. Why not come and experience our artists in action and view some fabulous art too. Complementary drinks on offer. Check out our social media pages for updates.
Keen to do some art?
Many visitors who come to the gallery often express an interest in creating their own art. We frequently get asked if we can recommend classes, so below we’ve included some possible options. The classes are local to Nelson, and we’ve also included longer courses from across the country. This is far from an exhaustive list, but a handy starter for your further investigations. Feel free to pop in the gallery or contact us to inquire further about some of the recommendations below. And if you would like to promote your art classes in our gallery, just let us know.
